Our Shed & Mental Health
Our Shed supports a number of initiatives aimed at providing help to members in our community experiencing mental health issues. These include Beyond Blue, R U OK and the Act Belong Commit programs as well as others.
Men’s Sheds were established initially with a clear mandate to focus on providing space for men to meet in a friendly environment where health issues could be discussed without fear or prejudice, including mental health issues.
Support is offered to members suffering issues relating to bereavement, divorce, illness, unemployment, retirement and a host of other matters, delivered through peer to peer discussions, guest speakers and organised forums.
Most important is the opportunity to chat amongst friends over a cuppa about issues that are of concern and share a few moments of mutual benefit.
That is what sheds are largely about. Being a place of acceptance, mateship and opportunity for all men.

Welfare Officer
Our Shed is a place of acceptance, mateship and activity for all men, enriching the lives and enhancing the wellbeing and health of local men.
We provide a safe, welcoming and encouraging space for men to work on their projects, learn new skills and develop valuable friendships.
Many men find themselves alone for a variety of reasons and need to connect with their community. Social isolation can occur even when men have a partner, and some men just want to learn or revisit a skill or access the resources available within the Shed.
Other members like to drop in for a chat around the table for morning tea – our daily ‘coffee club’.
As part of the focus on men’s health and well-being, our Shed has a designated welfare officer available to talk with members, assist them if they have a problem or issue, make suggestions and point them in the right direction.
The Welfare Officer is able to refer problems as they are identified and work with shed management or the chaplain where members need help, including visitation in hospital or at home.
Our Welfare Officer has completed a Mental Health course to help recognise when there is a problem with the mental health of shed members.
A key part of the Shed is the regular Health & Wellbeing talks on a variety of subjects of interest to members and their partners, with a focus on mental health issues.
